Chocolate and Pinot Noir
Pairing
Pinot Noir wines
vary from light to medium bodied with rich flavor. Pinot Noir
is one of the best wines in the World if grapes are grown
properly.
From the name you can say it is originated
from France. France's Burgundy region is the main grower of
these difficult to cultivate grapes, but California and Oregon
are now producing high quality Pinot Noir as well, for a bit
smaller price.
By the way, Pinot Noir is
very often used to make Champagne. Similar to
Zinfandel it has berry notes like
raspberry and sweet cherry, but goes far beyond that. It also
has a hint of herbs, mint and coffee.
Dark chocolate is not the
only that can be mixed with Pinot Noir. Milk
chocolate can be paired with lighter bodied Pinot Noir and some
mint and coffee infused chocolate as well as other chocolate
sweets and desserts are also a good match to Pinot Noir.
Some coverture chocolate would be
nicely accompanied with Pinot Noir as the wine accents their
fruitiness. Desserts with subtle creme filling will also go
with Pinot Noir.

"(Central Otago, NZ) 'Brooding, intense,meaty,
peppery, slippery through the mouth and bold
with fruit flavour. Big pinot, but big on
quality too. Quartz-like tannin jagging through
the finish. Sweet, smoky aftertaste. Drink
2008-2014 93 points Campbell Mattinson – The
Big Red Wine Book. Concentrated, sweet-fruited
and firm, it has plummy, cherryish flavours,
with hints of spice and liquorice, in a warm,
savoury style, finely poised for cellaring. 5
stars' Michael Cooper’s 2008 Buyer’s Guide to
NZ Wines.'Intense, spicy aromas with fruit a
little reticent at this stage. Very youthful
and tightly structured, with a very finely
textured palate. The long, fine grained tannins
demand cellaring. This should turn out to be a
top wine. Highly Recommended' Winewise Volume
