Riesling is a
white wine made of white skinned grapes. Originated
in the Rhine Region of Germany is now grown in many other
countries. Some of most known regions include from
Germany, France (Alsace), Austria, Italy, Australia,
Canada (especially known for late harvest wines), South
Africa. Riesling grape is one of the most
aromatic grapes (other two are Muscat and
Gewürztraminer). One of its biggest
strength is the ability to make wines of all
imaginable sweetness to taste fabulous. Riesling
wines vary in price depending on the region of production
and are considered to be among top three most
quality white wines along with Shardonnay and Sauvignon
Blanc. Aromatic grapes transfer such qualities into
wines displaying different sorts of
aromas like flowery, with rose petals and violets
being most common, honey and fruit selection of apples,
apricots, peach, graipfruit, lemon and an unusual
fresh cut green grass note. Sweet wines are recembling
sweet fruits and dry wines have citrucy notes often
combined with herbs notes. Being high acidity wine it is
crisry at taste. Riesling wines vary from dry to
semi-sweet, sweet and sparkling. Each type of wine
is best enjoyed at certain age: dry wines aged
between 5-15 years, semi-sweet 10-20 year old, sweet
10-30 and beyond. Best pairing achieved with late harvest
Riesling and white
chocolate.
